How Does This Calorie Calculator Work?

To calculate calories, you need a working formula. There are several formulas like Mifflin St-Jeor equation, Harris-Benedict equation, and Katch-McArdle formula but the one we are using is The Mifflin-St Jeor equation. This equation or formula is approved by the American Council on Exercise (ACE). The formula is:


For men: 

10 x weight (kg) + 6.25 x height (cm) – 5 x age (y) + 5 (kcal / day)

 

For women: 

10 x weight (kg) + 6.25 x height (cm) – 5 x age (y) -161 (kcal / day)

 

The equation finds the BMR or basal metabolic rate. When you have found the BMR, you need to multiply it with activity level. There are 5 activity levels. They are:

 

1. Sedentary = 1.2
2. Lightly active = 1.375
3. Moderately active = 1.550
4. Very active = 1.725
5. Extra active = 1.9

How Many Calories Should I Eat a Day?

The answer to this question really depends on the person. If you are thinking of staying fit, then you need to count your intakes. The more you intake, the more you need to workout. So you need to eat low calories. 

If you are thinking of leading a life that does not include any physical training or regular training then you can opt not to count calories.

The best part of this calculator is there is no limitation of this tool. You can not only calculate in Metric form but also in US imperial form. You can either input your data in cm or kg or you can input your data in inches or pounds.

Calorie deficit means when you burn more calories than you consume. The amount of calories your body needs, it shouldn't be less than what amount you need. 
 

Does Sweating Burn Calories?

If you are naturally sweating, then it doesn't burn calories. It only cools down your body. But if you are sweating due to different activities like running, going to gym then it can burn calories.
 

What are Empty Calories?

If a food doesn't have the nutrients or if the calories from sugar and fats is greater than nutrients found in the food, then it is called empty calories.
